Electrical Technical Training Specialist
Position Summary
As a Technical Trainer and Service Engineer in the Aftermarket Service Department, you will play a key role in developing and delivering training programs that enable Benshaw employees, customers, and partners to effectively operate and service motor control and drive systems across both medium- and low-voltage applications.
This role is focused primarily on technical training, knowledge transfer, and customer enablement across Benshaw's portfolio of motor control and drive products. You will serve as a technical resource for customers, distributors, internal teams, and sales personnel by providing product expertise, application guidance, and troubleshooting support.
In addition to training responsibilities, you will collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Product Management, and Service teams to support customer success, product adoption, and technical problem resolution. In select situations, this position may assist with startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, or onsite customer support activities when specialized product expertise is required.
Training Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and deliver technical training programs covering Benshaw MV and LV products, including VFDs, soft starters, and control systems.
- Conduct instructor-led and virtual training sessions for customers, distributors, service personnel, and internal teams.
- Provide instruction on system operation, configuration, commissioning, startup procedures, best application practices, and troubleshooting.
- Deliver hands-on demonstrations and lab exercises using production and training equipment.
- Develop manuals, presentations, quick-start guides, videos, and other instructional resources.
- Continuously improve training curriculum through customer feedback, product updates, and industry best practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Benshaw motor control systems, VFDs, soft starters, and associated control systems.
- Provide technical support and application guidance to customers, distributors, and internal teams.
- Assist customers and channel partners with product configuration, troubleshooting, and application-related questions.
- Participate in product launches, technical workshops, and customer education initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted technical resource for Regional Sales Managers, distributors, and channel partners.
- Assist with application reviews, product selection, and solution recommendations.
- Support sales efforts through customer visits, technical presentations, demonstrations, training events, and trade shows.
- Provide technical input for proposals, quotations, and application recommendations.
- In special circumstances, assist with startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, or onsite customer support activities requiring advanced product expertise.
- Support factory acceptance testing, product demonstrations, customer visits, and training events involving hands-on equipment operation.
- Collaborate with Service and Engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues.
- Travel approximately 15% - 30% to customer sites, distributor locations, training events, trade shows, and Benshaw facilities across the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience considered.
- 5+ years of experience in Technical Training, Applications Engineering, Field Service, Industrial Automation, or related role.
- Strong working knowledge of MV and LV motor control systems, soft starters, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, and Profibus.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and instructional skills.
- Experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, mining, water/wastewater, oil & gas, power generation, or heavy industrial markets.
- Experience developing training curriculum, e-learning content, or technical documentation.
- Familiarity with UL, CSA, IEC, and other applicable standards.
- NETA Level III Certification is advantageous but not required.
